AIJAC mourns the untimely passing of Prof. Barry Rubin, who we were proud to have worked with many times over the years.

Barry was a friend to our organisation, both on the professional and personal level. As one of AIJAC’s most popular visiting speakers and contributors to the Australia/Israel Review, he also developed warm, mutual ties with the Australian Jewish community at large.

He was a tireless and prolific analyst whose piercing intellect imparted to his readers and listeners a unique level of clarity and understanding about Israel’s very complicated situation and the wider foreign policy challenges and realities of the broader Middle East.

Barry must also be remembered as a scholar who believed in the just cause of Zionism and defended it on the intellectual level, while also planting roots in the Land of Israel with his family.

Our deepest sympathies go to his beloved wife Judith and their children at this painful time. He will be sorely missed.
