AIJAC welcomes announcement listing Sonnenkrieg Division as a terrorist organisation in Australia

The Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC) welcomes the announcement that the UK-based, neo-nazi group, Sonnenkrieg Division, will be listed as a terrorist organisation in Australia.
The Sonnenkrieg Division, and its parent organisation, the Atomwaffen Division in the US, advocate vile racism and violence as a means to further their political agenda.
“It is very serious to label a group as a ‘terrorist organisation’, but the threat of neo-nazis is a very serious matter”, Jeremy Jones AM, Director of Community Affairs for AIJAC said today.
“It is vital that there is legislation in place to confront terrorism and extremism, and that this is used appropriately and effectively, as it has been in this instance.”
“The extreme right is a threat to many aspects of the Australian way of life, as well as being a direct threat to many individuals within our community.”
“Further, as AIJAC argued in our submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry on this matter currently underway, the need to counter extremism must be a holistic approach, where education, community awareness and counter-messaging is key in defence of our society’s values,” he concluded.
