The Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council (AIJAC) has written to the family of the late deputy Prime Minister and National Party leader Tim Fischer expressing condolences on his passing and our “deepest and heartfelt sympathy” to Judy Fischer and their two sons.

AIJAC also expressed its appreciation for Fischer’s “stellar contribution” during his political life to Australia, and in particular, the “courageous role he played in ushering in Australia’s gun control laws”; the “campaign he determinedly waged to posthumously promote Sir John Monash to the rank of Field Marshall”; and his efforts “to combat the rise of extremist organisations in Australia and in promoting inter-religious co-operation here and internationally.”
