Hudson Institute senior fellow and recent AIJAC visitor Michael Doran appeared on Sky News Australia to talk about Iran and the Middle East “Deal of the Century”.

Doran, a former senior director of the National Security Council under US president George W Bush, welcomed Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s announcement that Australia would back US attempts to get Iran back to the negotiating table in order to strengthen the nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA.

“I hope [Prime Minister Morrison] joins the United States in renouncing the JCPOA . I hope he designates Hezbollah as well,” Doran told The Outsiders program on Sunday July 30.

He added that with the current decline of Britain on the international stage, Australia is well-placed to provide the United States with counsel on global challenges.

“I think Australia can be a kind of trusted interlocutor about global strategy and I think that’s the way that the Australians should be thinking about it. They can have an outsized influence on China policy, on American positioning globally. It’s something to think about.”
